Just a heads up Deviantart data entry specialists:

"A federal judge on Friday upheld a finding from the U.S. Copyright Office that a piece of art created by AI is not open to protection."

Whoa! This is a big deal, especially since so many are getting into AI :

To those submitting AI work... know your output is no longer protected. You have no more rights to it as if someone else created it. Basically you are just a prompter giving instructions and since the actual 'artist' isn't human, it can't be copyrighted and others can use it however they'd like:

"If a work's traditional elements of authorship were produced by a machine, the work lacks human authorship and the Office will not register it. For example, when an AI technology receives solely a prompt from a human and produces complex written, visual, or musical works in response, the “traditional elements of authorship” are determined and executed by the technology—not the human user."

"...these prompts function more like instructions to a commissioned artist—they identify what the prompter wishes to have depicted, but the machine determines how those instructions are implemented in its output."

Just do it. Really. No, seriously... stop waiting and DO. IT.

Projekt Lucid began as a simple idea in my head 20 years ago.

I was working at a mindless job that definitely wasn't art related, watching my youth disappear hour by hour just to be able to pay rent to survive. I was listening to a song by VNV Nation and zoning out, when an idea started forming. The smallest inkling of a plot, but an idea. I jotted down some notes, but it didn't go farther. Time passed.

A couple years later I decided to share this idea while eating dinner with a friend... who happened to be a writer and had previously written for a major cartoon network. I thought this would be the perfect person to give feedback. After listening to my very brief synopsis he said, "How do you get people to care about consequences in a dream? Also... it's been done hundreds of times before." Hard to hear, but he was right. I decided to scrap the idea, and didn't do anything. Time passed.

In the years afterwards, another story started to coalesce. I was writing down my dreams in a journal and had a revelation: All of my dreams seemed to take place in a similar landscape. All had similar locations and aesthetics. Instead of the plot being about the main character's dreams, my own dreams would dictate the plot, visuals and even the main character's behavior. I started to doodle sketches and write some descriptions, but because of self doubt... I waited. Time passed.

Time enough.

So my Alienware "H. R. Giger DeathTrain" computer's motherboard decided to die leaving me without photoshop for a time. Luckily my HD was spared. The show must go on and so page 3 is posted. At last a little color!
